MANCHESTER CITY-CHELSEA PREVIEW
It's the clash of the titans tonight at the Etihad. The League's sharpest attack v tightest defence. Manuel's Manchester hope to put some daylight between themselves and Chelsea come the end of proceedings tonight. The sky blues are still reeling from that Fernando Torres' winner at the Bridge last year and nothing other than victory will sooth the pain they bear.
Jose Mourinho is back and wants to start his second coming very well. Winning his 3rd Premier League crown will be a crowning achievement for the Legendary Portuguese manager. Although he is not where he wants to be, he's not far from where he needs to be. Victory tonight will send a stern message of intent to others in the Division, especially as City have been indomitable at home since the start of the season. Tonight's game goes more than just Manchester City v Chelsea as both managers have a bit of history between them even though they are trying so hard to downplay anything pointing in that direction. Mourinho replaced Pellegrini at Real Madrid and criticised the way he lost a Copa Del Rey game to Alcorcon. Since then, they have had spats at one time or the other and in the build up to the big game, nothing has changed.
On Tim Sherwood's assertion that City are the best team on the planet, Mourinho opined that maybe he thinks England is the whole planet. The man never backs down. Although the Chelsea manager believes that City are favourites for the EPL crown, he knows at the back of his mind that Chelsea have as much claim to the trophy as Arsenal and tonight's opponents.
The blue moon will have to do without one of the best players in the World and 26-goal machine, Kun Aguero. The diminutive Argentine hurt himself in the win Spurs and will be out for a month. El Kun has been fantastic this season and will be missed. However, in his absence, the Bosnian giant has fit in well into his big shoes and his partnership with La Beast Negredo has produced goals, goals and more goals. City have scored in 60+ consecutive home games and are yet to drop a single point at home this season. they have smashed all the records and are already well into triple figures in goal scored across all competitions. The dismantling of Spurs home and away, the demolition of Manchester United and Arsenal at the Etihad, the victory at Bayern, etc have been jaw dropping and awe-inspiring. Chelsea will have to be at their very best to stop the frightening run of this team.
MANCHESTER CITY-
Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy, Yaya, Fernandinho, Silva, Navas, Dzeko, Negredo
CHELSEA-
Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Ramires, Lampard, Oscar, Hazard, Willian, Eto'o
With Aguero and Torres injured, this match presents a great chance for Eto'o and Dzeko to cement a permanent place in the team. But it will be difficult to keep out a FIT KUN AGUERO as he is almost indispensable. As for the striker situation at Cfc, it's for anyone who satisfies the manager on the eve of the game. Although, Demba Ba hasn't been playing for a while now. The David Silva-Juan Mata face-off will now be a derby affair as the latter has moved to Manchester United. Silva is getting back to his old self and has delivered this term alongside the indefatigable Yaya Toure and the exceptional Fernandinho.
Chelsea's Eden Hazard is a contender for player of the year yet again. Without the Belgian genius, the pensioners would have been languishing in the lower ember of the League. Hazard might not reach the heights of Ronaldo and Messi, but he'll turn out to be one of the best of his generation if he continues like this. Oscar has been very supportive and has proved his mettle. Samuel Eto'o scored a brilliant hat-trick v Manchester United a few week ago. The African Legend is on form. It is the Terry-Cahill partnership that has to be very effective tonight or else it will be over before it starts.
